Question:
My doctor diagnosed me as having
herpes as evidenced by the cold sores in my oral cavity. I've had cold
sores for over a year now and they break out on the walls of my mouth,
on top, under or on the side of the tounge, and inner lips (not
outside or exposed). The pain is often unbearable and I can't eat or
drink proper when I have them. My doctor had me take Valtrex, which is
supposed to attack the virus itself (not the blisters).
I've read about Abreva on the website and from the discussions here
but cannot determine if it's OK to use inside the mouth cavity, where
I have my outbreaks. Is it OK for internal use?
I've read that Orabase-B can be applied inside the mouth. But is it as
effective? Also, is it really a prescription-only treatment?
I'd also be interested to hear about people's experiences with
Valtrex.
I'd like to make sure which treatment is appropriate because I'm from
Manila, Philippines and these medicines are not common here. If they
are, I'm sure they'll be very expensive for me.
Answer:
Acylcovir never did anything for my oral herpes. Neither did Denavir or
anything else. I've never tried Valtrex, though. My outbreaks are always on
the inside of my mouth. Maybe it isn't herpes at all. When I showed both my
doctor & dentist this crap, all they could say was "wow". Anyway, it sure
makes it extremely difficult to eat or brush or floss! Apparently, it is a
contagious problem because a former girlfriend developed the problem. Which
is another reason why I've backed away from socializing with women.
