Question:
I am sick with worry. I kind of noticed a small
blister on my gum - back of mouth - a couple of
days ago. It didn't bother me in the last. No
pain, etc. Yesterday, it had gotten larger and
last night while brushing teeth it burst. From
what I could see of it, it appeared to be clear.
Although I can't see it - or what's left of it - I
can feel no crust or scab. It just appears to be
regular skin again. so, I guess I had it probably
about 4 days before it burst. The thing is, I
performed oral sex on my boyfriend two days ago
and am SICK with worry it could have been a cold
sore. I don't want to say anything to him and
worry him unnecessarily until I know one way or
another what it was I had. Does this sound like a
cold sore or can you have simple blisters in your
mouth for other reasons?
Answer:
I don't know, so maybe a doctors visit is in order. Although now, when there isn't
anything to see, I don't know what your doc would do.
One thing to check out is having a herpes specific Western Blot blood test.
That's a blood test that looks for antibodies to the virus that your immune
system produces if you have herpes. To have the antibodies is to have the
virus.
Over 2/3rds of the people with herpes are unaware of their infection because
they either have no outbreaks, or ones so slight they blame other things. It's
quite common for someone to have oral herpes and not know they have it. Cold
sores = fever blisters = herpes. But whether what you had is herpes
specifically will be impossible for us to determine. Could been a canker
sore, which is not herpes--although cankers are not usually filled with fluid,
and not usually on the gum, rather on the soft parts of the mouth such as
tongue and inside of cheek. But it COULD be anything. Check with a doctor
because there are exceptions to most of these rules.
