need help for canker sores

Question:
My 13 year old son is constantly getting canker sores in his mouth; on his tongue, gums and inside of his lips. If they're not from accidentally injuring his gums with his toothbrush, they just appear unexpectedly. I realize he'll probably always get them, but what can we do to aleviate the pain and make them heal faster. Better yet, is there anything that a person can eat on a regular basis, maybe, to slow down their appearance? Any advice, even a home remedy would be appreciated.

Answer:
I used to get them a lot. i was always taught applying salt directly to it would help, but that was always painful and slow to heal, and tasted bad. A mouthwash of salt and possibly some iodine is what some doctors will tell you. A 50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and listermint is what i use now a days, tho i haven't had a canker soar in a long time, that might be why. The hydrogen peroxide bottle says right on it that it can be used full strength as a mouthwash.
