Question:
Does anyone know what causes canker sores and what a good cure
is for them? I've gone to several doctors and had no luck - I
even went to the head of the ears, nose and throat division at the
Mayo Clinic - the doctor there told me that they are caused by
stress and poor diet Just recently I went to the clinic and the
doctor prescribed Tylenol w/ Codeine #3 and Zovirax. He also
told me to take B-6 3 times a day. The result of which was that
I missed 3 days of work from nausea, and lightheadedness. Consequently
I quit taking the medication - the vomiting didn't help the
situation either with the added acid. Needless to say I am getting
tired of always suffering from these. If anyone has any ideas - I'd
love to hear them.
Answer:
Depends on the type of sores. One form of the herpes virus causes
some, stress can cause others (this is related to the virus is some),
and nutritional deficiencies cause others
The tylenol would kill the pain, the zovirax is
used to treat the herpes virus (and other things) and B-6 as a nerve
nourisher.
Tylenol has that effect on a lot of people. Especially with the codine
added in. If the sores were caused from an immune suppression problem
then the tylenol-3 probably only compounded the problem. LOTS of people
have SEVERE toxic reaction to tylenol and tylenol type products. I get
sick for days off of 500mg of tylenol. It doesn't even have to be
digested. But them I have intolerances/allergies to most synthetic
drugs/substances.
Try the B-6 and your normal pain reliver again and see if that helps.
If you are under severe stress, then try to boost your immune system
(eating properly, multi-vitamin, Vit-C (grams/day depending on what you
need), exercise, etc . . .) that should help your body fight off the
virus normally and without drugs.
I think the chain reaction is this (from memory of those Health Ed
classes back in college): The virus enters the body and finds it's
place to grow (the mouth). It then finds a good time to grow (usually
when your immune system is supressed - illness, stress, lack of proper
nutrition, too many other things to fight off at the time than some
pesky virus), it travels up the nerve root and appears as a sore on
the surface, and hurts like hell.
There's a stuff called Glyoxide that works well on mouth sores (at
least it does mine). It works like hydrogen peroxide does on a cut.
