High Fever -? Cold Sores Lip

Question:
I have suffered from cold sores since I was a child. I am 49 yr.. old now, and have noticed that stress is my primary reason for outbreak. I have skipped years, months, etc.. but now I have had three attacks in approx. 9 months. The first was a simple cold sore (lip) . The second turned out to be Shingles. Now this one is completely baffling me. Has anyone had an onset of Fever 103.4 degrees, (no other symptoms), aspirin brought fever to 102.4 degrees for the rest of the day. I feel asleep in the evening and woke up sweating and my temp. was 99.0. Still no other symptoms. The following day, my temperature remained @ 99.0 and the next day I woke up with multiple lesions on my upper lip, & one on the lower lip. During the day, my left eye now has a lesion, and my lips are still not blistering. I feel horrible. My temperature ranges from below normal to 99.2 degrees. I had a minor superficial phlebitis last week. Has anyone ever had a Herpes Simplex attack starting off with such a high fever? I personally have never. I'm scared, and don't want to go on Zovirax unless its really a Herpes simplex attack, and not something else that may be disguising itself with similar symptoms.

Answer:
Yes, some people do run rather high fevers with herpes, (*usually* high fevers are associated with initial/primary breakouts -- but as we know, every one reacts differently to the virus, and from time to time can change their own pattern).
If I were you, I would go see my doctor -- an outbreak that severe, involving the eye, sounds like something you want your doctor to see.
So, make an appointment. I hope everything turns out well!
