Question:
Can a cold sore be called a blister?
Answer:
I have sometimes heard cold sores referred to as "fever blisters". For me,
they sometimes are an indication of the onset of a mild fever. At other
times, they remind me that some items, as I handle them, were in touch with
a dog I had which I washed all too infrequently. For some time I had an
ancient sealskin jacket that once belonged to my mother. I finally got rid
of it, when I grew to realize that every time I handled it, I developed a
cold sore. Apparently there was some virus on the dog's hair and on the
sealskin that aroused some virus defense mechanism.
Or, as may be, I have a residual dormant virus which is awakened by contact
with certain items, or when I have certain kinds of fever. ( when I
eat certain foods, or when I go for too long a time with too little sleep,
etc.)
I can tell I am getting a cold sore when I feel a slight itchy tingle on the
edge of the lip surface. If I treat it immediately with Carmex, the sore
may develop into a small blister, but never develops the scab, nor cracks
open and bleeds down my chin.
