I just read a message from one of the message boards that claims this girl,
who is a virgin, gave herself genital herpes from her own canker sores? Is
this possible? I didn't know that cancer sores are in the herpes family? If
this is even true.
Answer:
Canker sores and herpes are not the same thing. Oral herpes or facial
Herpes (fever blisters or cold sores) is generally on the outside of
the mouth - the lips, nose, etc. whereas canker sores are on the
inside of the mouth. It is possible that she called the Herpes lesion
a canker sore.
Most people with facial Herpes do not know that it is highly
transmissable, Given the right conditions; an open cut or abrasion
on the skin, or an oriface and enough transfer of virus to innoculate
(which would have to be immediate) and touching the cut, abrasion or
oriface. It is highly improbable, but not impossible. It is
important to wash your hands after touching any Herpes lesion.
