Cause/prevention/treatment of Canker Sores?

Question:
Just wondering if anyone hase any info on cause/cure/prevention of canker sores? My brother gets them all the time and they are quite bothersome.

Answer:
I just "recovered" from a week of those blasted things. They are a major pain.and this time I had like 6, some on my cheek and some on my tongue.I couldn't talk, eat or do anything.Anything too cold or too hot irritated them. Moreover I couldn't eat anything too hard, as it would scrape against them and the pain was intolerable. Here's what I do, and what works. Basically I haven't sought medical attention, even though this condition arises every 4-5 months. Here's my own diagnosis and treatment: Kind crude, but it works I basically let the canker sores take their course, but I do tons of things to ease the pain and speed up recovery.

1) Eat soft things (rice, bananas etc.), and drink lots of orange juice.. I have found that Vitamin C doses seem to prevent the occurrence of these mouth ulcers (canker sores). So it's not a bad idea to ingest a multi-vitamin every day... (remember it hurts when you drink OJ)

2) Use "Anbesol" to combat the pain.. I don't believe that Anbesol speeds up recovery, but it DOES anesthetise the area, and really helps. The main annoyance of having canker sores, is the incredible pain.

3) Try to eat non-spicy foods.I have also noticed that my canker sores usually appear during periods when I may have problems with my GI tract. constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain etc..
That's basically the 1-2-3's of preventing/dealing with canker sores. I think it would be wise to go see a physician. In fact I might even go see one myself, during my next outbreak of canker sores.
