Question:
I've done some research on
the net and tried to determine what this sore in my mouth might be.
It is a small, red sore on my lower gums (cheek-side) with a white
patch in the middle similar to an ulcer. There is no pus or blood,
nor bad smell or taste in my mouth, and no pain when I press on the
tooth above this sore (which is why Im shying away from the abscess
theory, but Im not completely sure). The closest thing I can compare
the pain to is if I had a cut on my skin - it is inflamed the same
way, but more in an irritated way rather than an infection way (as far
as I can tell). This first showed up about 3 days ago and I thought
it might just be an ulcer - which I've had before - because it had the
same type of pain associated with it. But since it seems to have
lasted so long, Im wondering if it might be something more along the
lines of a canker sore or maybe even an abscess?
Im not able to see my dentist until early next week, but I'd like to
see if anyone had any ideas as to what this might be, or anything
symptom-wise that I might want to check for to determine what it is
Answer:
Sounds like an aphthous ulcer (canker sore). They can last a week to
10 days.
you'd better have it checked.
