Help for Canker Sores?

Question:
I often have canker sores and was wondering if there is a mineral or something that is missing from my diet? Are there foods that I should be avoiding? Is there something I should be eating alot of?

Answer:
If what you have is oral herpes, this may help:

1. Avoid sun, use sunscreen at all times, especially on the lips.
2. Get regulal dental care, cleanings, etc. Floss regularly.
( the smallest infection can trigger an outbreak, if you have bleeding gums or an inflamed periodontic pocket it can trigger repeated and frequent attacks)

3. Get a perscription for topical acyclovir, use it at the first sign that a sore is forming.
4. SOme people find that a regular addition of Lysine to the diet in the form of a supplement is helpful to prevent herpes, others find a large dose at the onset of a sore will leesen the severity of an outbreak.

5. I find that topical applications of tea tree oil are helpful to lessen the severity of the attack and speed the healing process.

6. Deal with your stress level, stress is a major contributing factor.

7. Pay attention to your health. Pay immediate attention to any infection or illness and be good to yourself. Herpes is "opportunistic", it appears when your immune defenses are down. Eat well, excercise, due stress reduction meditations if you need to.
