Question:
I have a bump on the inside of my lower lip. I thought it
was a canker sore, but I read that a canker sore is a
depression, and this is raised. So is it a cold sore?
Apparently, those are only on the outside of the
mouth. This looks like a pencil eraser, round, sort of
white looking, seems like it could pop. It doesn't hurt at all. Any
idea what this is? I've had it maybe 3 weeks. I've never had this
before. I'm thinking of lancing it.
Answer:
Sounds like it might be a mucocele or "mucous extravasation." Canker
sores or aphthous ulcers are usually ulcers and may hurt a bit.
Mucoceles also sometimes are uncomfortable. Lancing it might cure it,
but they may recur and sometimes have to be excised. Check with your
dentist or ENT physician.
