Are Canker Sores Contagious?

Question:
About a week ago I developed a painful little canker sore on my cheek. A day or two late it was unbearable. I've been putting this strange red stuff on it
-benzocaine. Anyway, yesterday it seemed to be getting better and now I think I'm getting another one. So, paranoid freak that I am, I did a web search to see what I cold dig up and it seems the causes can be stress, -I HAVE been freaking out big time lately, or a vitamin deficiency! An iron or B-12 deficiency. ( I just know that’s spelled wrong). so...has anyone out there had any experience with this? I've been a veg for 8 years- I think I've had 1 canker sore in my life-so do you think its a vitamin deficiency? Needless to say, I started popping the veg vitamins that were being ignored in the cupboard again

Answer:
Canker sores are not herpes. Canker sores are small sores you get INSIDE your mouth ONLY on soft tissue, ex: the tongue, the inside of the cheek, the gums. They are surrounded by a halo of red and may appear white or grey on top. They are inside, INSIDE the mouth. They are NOT contagious. 20% of people are said to get them. Cold sores fever blisters, are HERPES. They are VERY CAONTAGOUS. They are those sores you may get on your lips- look like a scab- they start out as a burning or itching on the lips, later develop into a red pimple like thing, then pop and scab over. Ugly to look at. You may also get them on your face or inside your mough on HARD tissue, like the hard pallette. Once again, they ARE CONTAGOUS. Yikes, what a can o' wurms I opened here! If anyone may be freaking out that they have herpes over a canker sore- do a web search- you'll get brought to a bunch of medical pages- where hopefully, your fears may be lain to rest. Unless you think having herpes is cool...which means you may have a lot more trouble...
